The 9 a.m. games are in the books so we take our first look around the grounds to keep you updated on everything that happened.

Pitch 1 Ball State Cardinals 170*-130 University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)

The Ball State Cardinals (1-0) knocked off UCLA (0-1) 170*-130 in a thrilling match that saw the snitch last until the third handicap. While at various times Ball State had an out-of-range lead with the snitch on pitch, UCLA showed that there’s a lot of fight in the team, battling back into a dead heat, before falling on the grab. Ball State next faces the RIT Dark Marks at 11 a.m. on Pitch 7, while UCLA plays again at 11:40 a.m. against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Quidditch on Pitch 5.

Pitch 2 Central Michigan Quidditch Club 120*-60 Boston University Quidditch

Central Michigan Quidditch Club (1-0) knocked off Boston University Quidditch (0-1) in each team’s first game of the day. Central jumped out to a 20-0 and 40-10 lead and consistently held a lead on the verge of snitch range before catching for the team’s first victory of US Quidditch Cup 10. The victors will face off with the Penn State University Nittany Lions at 11 a.m. on Pitch 5, while the defeated face SHSU Quidditch at 1 p.m. on the same pitch.

Pitch 3 Cal Quidditch 160*-130 BosNYan Bearsharks

Cal Quidditch (1-0) knocked off the favored BosNYan Bearsharks (0-1) in a back-and-forth affair. Although the Bearsharks were thought to have a chance at a deep bracket run, the early loss damages their chances at a high seed. The match was a see-saw affair from the outset, with the two teams trading goals the entire way before Cal caught snitch Gabe Garcez. Cal looks to continue its winning ways against Bowling Green State University at 11 a.m on Pitch 8, while BosNYan looks to rebound against Tribe Quidditch at 11:40 a.m. on Pitch 6.

Pitch 4 Florida’s Finest 80*-70 Appalachian Apparators

Florida’s Finest (1-0) narrowly avoided an upset at the hand of its Pod 5 team the Appalachian Apparators (0-1) 80*-70 on a come-from-behind snitch catch. Appalachian led for the entirety of the game and briefly took a 60-20 lead 14 minutes in to move the game out of snitch range. Florida’s Finest, a de facto home team, battled back to put the game in range and caught for a dramatic win. Finest will look to stave off another upset on Pitch 3 against Ohio State Quidditch at 11:40 a.m., while the Apparators face Anteater Quidditch at 11 a.m. on Pitch 2.

Pitch 5 Lone Star Quidditch Club 200*-0 Richmond Ravens

In its first game of the day, Pod 2 Lone Star Quidditch Club (1-0) routed Pod 5 Richmond Ravens (0-1), making their US Quidditch Cup debut, 200*-0. Lone Star plays again at 11 a.m. against Arizona State University, looking to improve to 2-0 against the pool’s Pod 1 team. Richmond will seek its first ever win at US Quidditch Cup against the University of Miami at 1 p.m. on Pitch 3.

Pitch 6 Rochester United 130-50* Marquette University Quidditch

Rochester United (1-0), looking to make a deep bracket run, handled its first game of the day in cool fashion with a 130-50* win over Marquette University Quidditch (0-1). Rochester United dominated the entirety of the game forcing its opponents to cold catch. Rochester plays again at 11:40 against its Pod 2 team Lake Erie Elite; Marquette next plays at 1 p.m. against the Long Beach Funky Quaffles.

Pitch 7 Crimson Elite 140*-40 The Southern Storm

Crimson Elite (1-0) knocked off the Southern Storm (0-1) on its quest for a deep bracket run. Crimson scored the first five goals of the game and did not look back. The Utah squad looks to continue its winning ways at 1 p.m. against the Silver Phoenix, while the Storm look to rebound at 11 a.m. against the Boise State Abraxans.

Pitch 8 Gulf Coast Gumbeaux 150*-40 New York Quidditch Club

Gulf Coast Gumbeaux (1-0) began its US Quidditch Cup 10 journey on the winning foot with a 150*-40 win over New York Quidditch Club (0-1).
